Creative Home Staging: Here’s a FUN idea from Hooked on Houses!

We all know that staging a home is a great way to showcase the house in a postive light…but here is a new take on it. Take a look at the early ’60s motif they decided to use to stage this home located in Georgia. It must have worked…the $300,000 home is now under contract.

What era would best describe your home?

Staging a Mid-Century Modern House the Don Draper Way

Maybe the real estate agent had been watching too many episodes of “Mad Men” when she listed this cool mid-century modern house in Georgia because the staging seems to have been inspired by Don and Betty Draper. Take a look and you’ll see what I mean.

Welcome to our mid-century home, built in 1960. It has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and a $300,000 listing price. One of our favorite things to do is to sit on the sofa and look out our big picture window in the living room.

All that’s missing from these photos is the cigarette smoke…

Based on a photo of the Realtor, I think she may be the one playing Betty.

Is that Sterling Cooper calling? I hope pretend Don Draper doesn’t have to “work late” again (we all know what working late at that ad agency really entails!).

The pretend DD spends a lot of time on the phone…

And the pretend BD is getting a little fed up with it.

This house is really fabulous. I love the ceilings and those huge windows. Also love that she’s vacuuming that small skin rug in a dress, an apron, and heels. Ah, the good old days!

Thankfully, they chose not to stage the bathroom…

Agents have been getting pretty creative with their listings in order to grab our attention lately, and it’s working! We’ve also seen house tours given by a drunk doll, a couple of vases filled with flowers, and even a lime.

Check the listing for the rest of the photos and more information about the house.

Forbes, Yahoo! Travel: Accolades for Cd’A

Posted: Tuesday, July 12, 2011 12:00 am | Updated: 8:43 am, Mon Jul 18, 2011.

Accolades for Cd’A By ALECIA WARREN/Staff writer The Coeur d’ Alene Press | 5 comments

Big news, everyone: We’re fantastic.

Way better than Jackson Hole, even.

The lists tell us so.

Coeur d’Alene has been spotlighted by two notable media entities, hailing our hamlet as superior in pretty much all the ways that count.

Forbes Magazine placed Coeur d’Alene as 18th on its list of 25 Top Small Metros in its July edition. And Yahoo! Travel put the Lake City as numero uno on its list of “8 Perfect Summer Lake Towns,” placed above the likes of Grand Lake, Colo. and Jackson Hole, Wyo.

These just add to the accolades the Lake City has received in recent years, said Todd Christensen, CEO and president of the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce.

This recent recognition will likely draw more eyes to the chamber website, Christensen added, enticing more tourists to pencil this is in as a destination to lug their boats and drop some cash.

“(The attention) will generate both business and leisure travel,” Christensen said. “We see that our lodging facilities continue to have growing occupancy, but we always can have more.”

The city seems to be doing pretty well there.

On Monday, the sun baked the planks of the Third Street dock as tourists milled by, some heaving coolers to the beach, others stirring the lake water on paddle boats and jet skis.

Folks attending the National Funeral Directors Association convention at The Coeur d’Alene Resort were taking a livelier turn for the day, as they gassed up rental boats for a four-hour cruise.

“This is right up there,” said Ron Karelse of Grand Rapids, Mich., as he compared Coeur d’Alene to other vacation spots. “This has a unique flavor all its own.”

His pal, Scott Meyersieck, from Pigeon, Mich., said the friends and their spouses wouldn’t be opposed to returning.

“The amenities, downtown shopping, the vistas,” he said of his favorites. “It’s similar to the shoreline in Michigan. Just that calming effect that life on the water offers.”

Mandee Hiebert, a Coeur d’Alene denizen who bikes and runs local trails to train for Ironman, worried the Forbes and Yahoo recognition might lure too many eager visitors.

“We love Coeur d’Alene. We want to keep it a secret,” Hiebert said.

“However, that’s how we make our money. It’s a big tourism area,” said her friend, Danielle Parks, as they prepared to go boating on the lake. “It’s a Catch-22.”

They get it, though. There are all the conveniences of a city here, they observed, with the affable residents of a small town, abutting a playground of trails and a glorious lake.

“It’s not just for the rich,” Parks said. “It’s an equal opportunity lake.”

Forbes and Yahoo made similar judgments.

The city stands out because of its bucolic layout, according to Yahoo, enhanced by brewpubs and galleries.

The Forbes article lauds outdoor recreation opportunities. The magazine also states that business costs are 26 percent below the national average in Coeur d’Alene, and that unemployment is expected to fall to 8.7 percent by 2013.

Maybe, said regional economist Alivia Body.

“That would mean we’d have to add about 2,000 more jobs in the area,” she said. “It’s pretty tough. I could imagine maybe 1,000 by then.”

Ginny Tate, president of Elk Point Consulting, couldn’t confirm the 26 percent figure, since the Forbes article wasn’t specific about how the number was calculated.

“It could be anything,” Tate said.

But Idaho does have tax incentives for new businesses, she said, and Coeur d’Alene offers plenty of workforce training opportunities.

“So the ability to move a business to Idaho, find space and quality employees, friendly tax rules, along with quality of life, does make this an excellent place to live,” Tate said.

Matt Buckley and Cathie Hatfield, who live near Lake Tahoe, said likewise when they stopped their bikes on the Centennial Trail.

They spend summers in Coeur d’Alene to get the same outdoor experience as back home, they said, without the commercialism.

It’s clear, fresh. And still, for the most part, untouched.

“It’s like Lake Tahoe 30 years ago,” Buckley said.

“Fifty years ago,” Hatfield added.
